Billy Dudley Moore “Sis” Waid Proffitt, 101, was born on June 12, 1925, in Fincastle. She died peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2026. She was the daughter of Fulton and Helen Houseman Waid.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Ike” Proffitt of Clifton Forge, Va.; her sister, Dreama Waid Johnson (Joseph); her brother, Robert Archer Preas Waid (Reedie); and her daughter, Debby Proffitt.
She is survived by her daughter, Jody Haltom (Guy); grandchildren, Cody and Laurie Paige; and great-grandchildren, Eva and Roman. She had many nieces, nephews and extended family that she loved dearly.
Sis and Ike shared the love for golf and played courses from Europe to Hawaii and many states in the continental United States. In the mid-70s, her ladies’ foursome was ranked No. 2 in the U.S.
Sis was the “Matriarch of the Waid Ladies Sisterhood.” Her family meant the world to her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was a great prayer warrior and she will be forever missed.
A service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Oakey’s North Chapel with the Rev. Willis Logan officiating. A graveside service was held at 3:30 p.m. in Godwin Cemetery in Fincastle.
