Quilters from the Blue Ridge Quilters Guild and the Star City Quilters Guild surround the first three recipients of quilts from the newly formed Quilts of Valor/Roanoke Stitchers.

The first award ceremony for the newly established Quilts of Valor Foundation/Roanoke Stitchers was held on December 18, 2021, and quilts were awarded to three members from the same family. This event brought together multiple generations from these three families.

Members from both the Blue Ridge Quilters and the Star City Quilters participated in this first of what will hopefully be many programs. Carolyn Zaleski, who founded this guild, led the mid-day ceremony which culminated in the distribution of quilts to Nelson Sarver, Larry Sarver and Timothy Gardner.

Nelson Sarver, Larry Sarver and Timothy Gardner were the first three recipients of the Quilts of Valor Foundation’s quilts awards. The ceremony was held on December 18 at Penn Forest Christian Church. [SUBMITTED PHOTOS]
Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, or would like to nominate a veteran for a Quilt of Valor, should reach out to Zaleski at vaquiltercz@gmail.com. The group meets on the third Thursday of every month at The Glebe in Daleville from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
