The Read Mountain Middle School wrestling team had seven champions in winning the annual Norsemen Invitational tournament last Saturday at Northside High School.

Read Mountain scored 247 points to outdistance second place Glenvar by 92.5 points. Central Academy was 10th among a dozen middle schools that competed.

First place winners for RM included Dion Pittman at 84 pounds, Tre Saunders at 98, Sam Grooten at 128, Andrew Gilbert at 144, Dalton Oxley at 175, Titus Hopkins at 190 and Xavier Williams at 210. Gilbert, Oxley, Hopkins and Williams all finished the season undefeated.

Second places went to TJ Piluso at 152 and Cameron LeBlanc at 160.

Read Mountain, coached by former Lord Botetourt standout Paul Craft, finished the season a perfect 9-0 in duals along with the championship at the Norsemen Invitational.

“That’s a solid foundation for our program and the coaching staff over there has done a tremendous job getting those kids out and loving this great sport,” said Lord Botetourt High School coach Chuck Burton.
