The Lord Botetourt boys are wrapping up the basketball regular season this week, as are many teams in the Roanoke Valley. There will be no Blue Ridge District tournament as teams’ makeup games were postponed by two weeks of inclement weather.

The Region 3D tournament is scheduled to begin next Tuesday, Feb. 24, and the top eight teams in the region qualify. The Cavaliers come into the week in seventh place in the region with a game at Staunton River tonight.

“We are currently seventh, but there are a lot of teams with several games this week due to the winter storms,” said LB coach Josh Aliveto. “We should have a good understanding of where we are by Thursday.”

The Cavaliers are 6-17 overall after winning two of three games last week. They opened the week with a 71-66 overtime win at Northside, sweeping the season series from the Vikings for the first time in many years.

“We were able to make some clutch shots down the stretch, and we were extremely efficient at the free throw line to help secure the win,” said Aliveto.

LB had five players in double figure scoring, including Rylan Lavinder’s 20 points. Landon Hayes scored 15 points and Simon Williams contributed with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Last Thursday the Cavs hosted Pulaski County and used a big second half for a 70-55 win. Lavinder was high again with 20 points, Hayes had 17 points and eight boards and Jairdan Pennix scored 14 points

“This was one of our better defensive nights as we were able to minimize damage from their top three scorers,” said Aliveto.

LB hosted Franklin County Friday for “Senior Night,” honoring seniors Hayes, Brady Kish, Caleb Muterspaugh and Jase Lisle. Unfortunately, the visiting Eagles took a 51-34 win in what will likely be the Cavaliers’ last home game of the season.
