River boys 6th, girls 10th in 1A/2A state indoor meet

The James River High School indoor track team fared well at the state Group 1&2 indoor meet at Roanoke College last week. The boys finished sixth overall and the girls were 10th.

In the boys’ meet Will Fowler placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run and two Knights had seventh place finishes in field events. Chase Perkey was seventh in the high jump and Logan Williamson was the same in the shot put.

River placed in three relays, including a third place in the 4×400. That team consisted of Michael Hays, Zach Hodges, Fowler and Noel Preece.

Two other relay teams took fifth places. The 4×200 team included Fowler, Hodges, Perkey and Hays and the 4×800 team had Preece, Camden Powell, Hodges and Owen Krisnifski.

For the girls, Katelyn Wiley took a second place in the 500 meters and ran on two relay teams that placed. The 4×400 team was third with Katelyn, Kerri Wiley, Erin Walker and Cameron Hildebrand. Taking a fifth place was the team of Walker, Susan Shulz and both Katelyn and Kerri Wiley.

The 4×800 relay team finished seventh. That team consisted of Abagail Link, Catherine Amos, Tessa Jones and Bridgette West.

Finally, in the field events, Tara Krantz was seventh in the shot put.

The Maggie Walker boys and Wilson Memorial girls won team championships.

James River’s Logan Williamson placed 7th in the state shot put competition with a throw of 45-10.50 on the first day at the 1A/2A state meet. Teammate Tara Krantz also placed 7th in the girls competition.
James River’s William Fowler placed 5th in the 1000 m 1A/2A championship race with a time of 2:41.92.
James River’s Michael Hays placed 6th in the 300 m dash at the 1A/2A meet on Thursday at Roanoke College (38.22).
James River’s Katelyn Wiley races to the finish in the 800 m relay. The Knights team of Wiley, Kerri Wiley, Cameron Hildebrand, and Erin Walker placed third at the state championship meet with a time of 4:32.41.
