The James River boys and girls track teams both finished fourth at the Region 2C meet at Christiansburg High School last week. Glenvar swept both team titles.
The River boys scored 92 points and had two region champs. Canaan Clark won the discus and Alex Eastman took first in the shot put. Clark was also second in the shot and Andrew Fowler was sixth in the discus.
In the jumping events, Brian Moran took third place in the high, triple and long jumps.
In the running events, Nathan Etzler took second in the 400, Michael Jorgensen was third in the 3,200 and Conner Church took third in both the 100- and 200-meter sprints. Cayden Shorter was sixth in the 1,600 and River’s 4×100 relay team took fifth place.
In the girls meet, Holly Hylton took second in the 200 and third in the 400. Kelsey Firebaugh was third in the 100 while Ella Wright took fifth in both the 100 and 200. River’s 4×100 team was fourth.
Naveah VanBuren had a good day with a second in the discus and a fifth in the triple jump. Also scoring in the discus event were Emma Francis in third and Kyleigh Mills in fifth.
The top four in each event will advance to the state Class 1&2 meet at James Madison University in Harrisonburg this weekend.
