The James River boys will have their work cut out for them as they return to Radford to open the Region 2C soccer tournament on Thursday.
River is the fifth seed in the West Division of Region 2C while Radford is fourth. The winner of that game advances to a Memorial Day game at Martinsville, the number one seed.
The Knights are hoping to fare better than they did last week when they dropped a 6-1 game at Radford.
“We just didn’t come to play is all I can say,” said coach Jared Whiting. “We were just way out of sorts throughout the game and couldn’t come together.”
Tristan Flood had River’s only goal.
On Thursday the Knights bounced back with a 4-3 win at Carroll County to end the regular season.
“We recovered from a terrible game and came out playing well,” said Whiting. “We possessed very well throughout midfield and finished strong in the final third.”
Flood had two goals and Chase Powell scored one.
“We seem to be an on and off team this year and we were on tonight,” said Whiting.
