River float will benefit little boy with brain tumor

A river float to benefit Lucas Young will be held on Saturday, June 8. Lucas is a 6-year-old who has been diagnosed with Optic Pathay Glioma, a slow-growing brain tumor.

The float begins at the Springwood Boat Dock at 11 a.m. and continues to Buchanan. Tickets are $30 single, $40 couple, and $10 for 12 and under. The ticket includes dinner from Aaron’s Smokehouse, primitive camping at Thrasher’s Pond and live music by Rick Sloan.

Raffle tickets also may be purchased at or before the event. They are $2 each or a book of 12 for $20. Drawings will be held at the fundraiser. Prizes are: first, $400 cash; second, fishing kayak; third, overnight stay and breakfast for two at Natural Bridge Hotel; fourth, seafood buffet for two at Peaks of Otter; fifth, $100 Home Depot gift card; and sixth, $50 gift card to North Star Restaurant.
