Matchups and seedings were yet to be determined at press time but with a 7-1-1 record with one game to play, the James River girls were a lock to be a high seed and open at home. The Region 2C tournament is scheduled to open on Monday.

The Knights are red hot heading into the tournament. Last Thursday in Hillsville they took a 4-1 win over Class 3 Carroll County. Kayla Myers started the scoring at the midpoint of the half, assisted by Rachel Hix, firing a shot from long range into the corner.  At the closing minutes of the first half Alise Orent had a breakaway off an assist from Drew Whitson to narrowly defeat the Cavalier defender and goal keeper, and it was 2-0 River at the half.

Carroll cut the lead to 2-1 in the second half but River answered when Bridgette West headed in a Myers corner kick. Myers scored her second goal of the night with six minutes on the clock for some insurance.  Vianey Ramirez made her debut in the James River goal, sharing time with Haley Meadows, and each made three saves in the match.

River also had a 1-0 win over Alleghany in Low Moor last week with Morgan Marshall scoring the River goal with an assist from Ella Wright. Haley Meadows made five saves and many decisive defensive plays for the Knights.

The Knights were scheduled to wrap up the regular season on Tuesday of this week with a home game against Giles.
