The James River baseball team will have a rare night game on Thursday as the Knights take on Staunton River in Moneta. A jayvee game with the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 5 p.m. with the varsity set to begin around 7 p.m.

River is coming off a 5-1 loss to Carroll County in Springwood on Monday of this week as the Knights fell to 1-8 overall. River held a 1-0 lead after four innings but Carroll tied it in the fifth, then went ahead in the sixth and finished strong.

Jake Braun pitched six innings for River and took the loss, giving up just one earned run while striking out five. Gabe Sebastino pitched one inning and gave up two runs.

The Knights had five hits, including two by Austin Thomas. Dalton Hall, Dakota Thomas and Sebastino had one each.

River is back home next Monday, June 7, to host Alleghany in a Three Rivers District game.
