River hoop teams take break due to pandemic concerns

The James River boys and girls basketball teams were off last week due to quarantine issues from the coronavirus pandemic. The boys will return tonight as they host Lord Botetourt in an intra-county rematch.

“After a long layoff these next two weeks we will play a ton of basketball,” said Knights coach Ethan Humphries. “I’m hoping we can show improvement each game as we will have only one practice between Wednesday’s LB game and the time playoffs start the week of February 8. Our entire team should be back with us next week after their quarantine ends.”

After tonight’s home game the Knights will be home against Floyd County on Thursday, at Rockbridge Friday and back home Saturday night to play Radford.

The girls won’t return until February 3 when Giles comes to Springwood, followed by a game at Floyd. The girls can return to practice on Saturday after being off and out of school for 14 days.
