Cameron Hildebrand stroked three doubles and scored three runs to lead James River to an 11-1 win over Giles in Springwood last week. The game was shortened to five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Madison Brogan contributed two singles and three RBIs and Lakota Lucado had an RBI double, two walks, three runs scored and a stolen base.
“We were more patient at the plate, which is a major point of emphasis for us,” said River coach Steve Austin. “That is still a work in progress and we must get better in that regard.”
Knights pitcher Ainsley Simmons allowed only an infield hit in five innings of work while striking out eight batters and walking one.
“We had a solid outing on the pitching mound by Ainsley,” said Austin. “She continues to improve as she gets more and more comfortable out there.”
James River stopped a three-game losing streak and evened the record at 4-4 overall and 1-1 in Three Rivers District play. The Knights were rained out of a game at Alleghany last Friday, and will return from the break with road games at Parry McCluer next Monday and Carroll County on Tuesday.
