Two James River swimmers placed in the Class 1&2 state meet in Richmond last week. The meet was held at the SwimRVA facility.

Riley Persinger, a sophomore, finished sixth in both the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke events. She dropped three seconds in the 200 in prelims and another full second in finals with her personal and season best time in finals. In backstroke she was seeded seventh in finals and finished sixth, dropping a full second in prelims.

Another sophomore, Austin Myers, took a sixth place in the boys 100 Backstroke. Austin was seeded eighth heading into finals and pulled out the sixth place finish. Joel Barber had a 12th place finish in the 100 Breaststroke as a freshman.

“We had an amazing season, and I look forward to continuing to grow our team next season,” said River coach Kit Williams.

Lord Botetourt swimmers were competing in the Class 3 meet as the paper went to press. Results will be included next week.
