The James River track team took to the oval for the first time this spring when they attended the Vince Bradford Relays at E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg last Saturday. Both the boys and girls had some strong performances in a meet that hosted about a dozen schools.

For the boys, the 4×800 relay team of Jacob Hill, Michael Jergensen, Cayden Shorter and Silas Miller took third place, while the 4×100 team of Conner Church, Ben Bailey, Brian Moran and Chase Cuddy was fourth. Individually, Shorter was fifth in the 1,600, while Hill took sixth in the 800 and Jergensen was sixth in the 3,200.

In the field events, Bailey was fifth in both the high and long jumps. Two Knights placed in the shot put, Canna Clark in third and Alex Eastman in fourth.

For the girls, Kyleigh Mills took third in the 400, while Kelsie Firebaugh was sixth in the 100. The foursome of Firebaugh, Naveah VanBuren, Ava Thacker and Mills took fifth in the 4×100. In the field events, Emma Francis was third in the discus.

The Knights will attend the Colonel Classic at William Fleming this Saturday.
