The James River Knights will host the second match of a home and home series with Lord Botetourt tonight. A jayvee doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m. followed by a varsity tilt in the annual intra-county rivalry.
Lord Botetourt comes in at 5-4 overall after sweeping Staunton River around a loss to Franklin County in the past week. Last Thursday the Cavs swept the Eagles in three sets, 25-6, 25-12 and 25-14.
Annelise Wolfe led LB with eight kills against Staunton River while Nora Spickard had seven and Parker Hudson had five. Wolfe also had 15 service aces.
Anna Dewease led the defense with 11 digs, followed by Spickard with nine. Sydney Whorley had 13 assists and Rylee White had 10. Julianna Stephenson had three kills, five digs and an ace.
On Thursday in Rocky Mount the Cavs were swept by host Franklin County, 25-14, 26-24 and 25-17. Wolfe and Hudson had five kills each while Dewease had 17 digs and Whorley dished out 17 assists.
On Monday the Cavs were back home for their second match with Staunton River and they came away victorious again, this time 25-10, 25-10 and 25-11. Hudson had 12 kills, Spickard had 10 and Wolfe put seven kills away. Dewease had 18 digs while Whorley had 25 assists.
James River is now 1-8 after two tough losses in the past week. Last Thursday at Alleghany they took the Mountaineers to five sets before falling in a marathon match. Then they dropped a home match to a strong Carroll County team on Monday, 25-22, 25-21 and 25-19.
Seniors Morgan Marshall and Ainsley Simmons had six kills apiece to lead the Knights. Freshman Michaela Hedrick had 13 digs and freshman Elly Lacky had a dozen.
After hosting LB tonight the Knights are scheduled to entertain Floyd County in a Three Rivers match on Thursday.
