Eagle Rock Ruritans helped collect over 200 pounds of dog and cat food for Angels of Assisi at Blue Ridge Vineyard on Saturday, June 19. Each year, the vineyard sponsors a benefit for animals rescued by Angels of Assissi from neglect or abuse.

The Ruritans also collected medical and other supplies at the gate.  In addition, monetary proceeds from the gate, from beverage sales, from raffles, and from other donations netted the Angels over $1,000 in cash.

FxPearl & Co., a band headed by Richard Furman, provided music of the ages for the event, and Aaron’s Smokehouse sold barbeque.

Ruritan members Jim and Barbara Holaday and the Blue Ridge Vineyard were commended for their annual benefit which gives assistance to the Angels of Assisi in their much needed service to the broader community.

Some items of interest from the June 15 meeting of the Eagle Rock Ruritan Club included the following:

  • Lisa Miles from the Orchard Hills Church attended and spoke about the value of participating in an after-school homework help program in the area.
  • The club officially announced the re-opening of the Eagle Rock Community Center for public use.  For reservations, call 884-2775.
  • Club members were reminded that flags had been placed on veterans’ graves in the Northern Botetourt area for the recent Memorial Day observance.
