The Botetourt County School Board recognized the May 2025 Employees of the Month at its June 12 meeting.
Kristie Myers, attendance officer/secretary at Central Academy Middle School, and Jessie Curulla, English teacher and yearbook sponsor at Lord Botetourt High School, received certificates of recognition for their work.
Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Russ shared comments sent in for each educator’s nomination sharing, “Kristie does a fantastic job with the attendance at Central Academy Middle School. Not only that, but the students love to go chat with Ms. Myers. She checks on so many students and they love her kindness and willingness to listen. She goes above and beyond at CAMS. Every student is aware of the hard work she puts forth each and every day. She also served as a volunteer soccer coach for the girls soccer team.”

In regard to Curulla’s nomination, Russ shared, “Jessie is one of the kindest teachers at Lord Botetourt. She always greets everyone with a smile and gives 110% at her job. She completes the yearbook every year at LB and they have won countless awards due to her leadership. She also teaches dual enrollment English where she prepares each student to be college-ready. Most of her students will say her class is the one that prepared them the most for college. She teaches with kindness and compassion giving her all in every task she performs at Lord Botetourt.”
Additionally, the Lord Botetourt Boys Unified Track Team recently took home a gold medal in the 4×100 meter relay in the Special Olympics UCS State Championships at Richmond University on June 6. Lord Botetourt’s Mason Boitnott, Dalton Bradley, T.J. Burns, and Kyle Nordgren were recognized by the board on their big win.
