John Robert “Hammer” Seemann of Fincastle went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, March 13, 2023, surrounded by family. He was 69 years old.

John was born to the late Kurt and Chrystal Seemann, on October 26, 1953, in Detroit, Mich.

He is survived by his two daughters and four grandchildren, Rachel Compton, husband Tim, their daughters Kaleigh, Ellie, and Harley; Danielle Bailey, husband Andrew and son, Warren. He is also survived by his seven siblings, Bonnie Meyerand, Nancy Stewart, Janet Seemann, Robin Seemann, Kurt (Linda) Seemann, Richard Seemann, and Bob (Robin) Seemann; many dear nieces and nephews; friends Boyd and Patsy Clark; Eddie and Dori Hicks.

In his early years he enjoyed playing ice hockey, listening to music, and getting into all sorts of trouble with his seven brothers and sisters. He even played on multiple softball leagues at once and was an excellent golfer with a handicap of seven.  He married Marty Sutherland and had two beautiful daughters. He never met a stranger and anyone that got the opportunity to talk with him, he made sure they knew of his daughters’ accomplishments. He was extremely proud of both girls as they took after him by becoming, as he would say, “softball state champs!”. He also loved hunting, fishing, and woodworking, but most of all he loved spending all the time he could with his beloved daughters and grandchildren. While John left us far too soon, his smile and charismatic personality will always be remembered.

John’s family will host a memorial service at Botetourt Funeral Home on Saturday, March 25. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.
