The Local Office on Aging (LOA), in partnership with the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Rock Ruritan Club, and area churches, is excited to announce its first “Senior Services Day.” “Senior Services Day” is focused on raising awareness of the numerous services and resources available to our 50+ community.

This event will be held on Friday, September 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Eagle Rock Community Center located at 14604 Church Street in Eagle Rock. A free lunch will be served by Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office deputies volunteering at the event and door prizes donated from many of the area businesses such as grocery and gasoline gift cards will be given away each half hour.

“The LOA is dedicated to helping older persons remain independent for as long as possible,” said Brenda Willis, organizer of the event and LOA’s Assistant Director of Rural Services. “Seniors attending the event will be able to network with a list of services that may take them months to accomplish if they had to schedule to meet with each of them independently.”

Some of the many services that will be offered at the event include being able to sign up for daily well-being checks, some vaccines, and information about transportation options and the Botetourt Tax Relief program. Stations will be set up so seniors visiting the event can comfortably browse and seek out service they feel are pertinent to them. The event and all services are provided free of charge to the senior community.

“This is the first event of this type for our area, and we are excited to be a part of it,” said Sheriff Matt Ward, “We are committed to partnering with our community resources through our Senior Focus Program Initiative to assist in providing services that are tailored towards our seniors. It is important that we continue to network with them.”

The event is weather permitting. Should it become necessary to cancel because of weather, announcements will made through the local media and social media outlets. For more information call Brenda Willis with the Local Office on Aging at 540-309-9898 or email at bwillis@loaa.org.
