The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce the return of its community outreach event, “Shootin’ with the Sheriff,” for its second year. The sporting clay shoot will take place on March 28 at The Preserve at Crooked Run, bringing together community members, outdoor enthusiasts, and local law enforcement for a day of fun, friendly competition, and community engagement.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, Sheriff Matt Ward and the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office are once again inviting the public to participate in this unique sporting clay experience. The event is open to shooters of all skill levels, from seasoned participants to beginners looking to try something new.

Teams of four will compete on the sporting clay course, with prizes and bragging rights up for grabs. More importantly, the event offers a great opportunity for the community to connect with local law enforcement while supporting community outreach initiatives.

In addition to the sporting clays competition, participants will enjoy a variety of activities throughout the day, including a silent auction, 50/50 drawing, lunch, and more. Space is limited to 24 teams of four, so early registration is encouraged. Teams are welcome to bring their own shotgun, though one can be provided if needed. All participants must provide their own ammunition.

Event Details:

  • Date: March 28
  • Location: The Preserve at Crooked Run
  • Team Cost: $400 per team (4 members)
  • Requirements: Bring your own shotgun (optional); ammunition is not provided
  • Activities: Sporting clays, silent auction, 50/50 drawing, lunch, and more

Sheriff Ward looks forward to continuing the event as a growing community tradition.

“Shootin’ with the Sheriff is a great opportunity for us to connect with our community outside of the traditional law enforcement setting,” said Sheriff Ward. “Events like this help strengthen relationships while bringing people together for a fun day outdoors. We’re also incredibly grateful to our local business partners and sponsors who help make this event possible and support our community outreach efforts.”
