The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) announced on March 28 the arrest of Joseph Lee Bray, 34, of Eagle Rock, in connection with the March 23 shooting incident in the Eagle Rock/Iron Gate area. Bray was taken into custody without incident last Friday afternoon at approximately 12:44 p.m.

Following the shooting incident, deputies, along with the Virginia State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF), employed every available law enforcement resource to locate and capture the attempted murder suspect. Bray was transported to the Botetourt-Craig Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.

Bray has been charged with abduction, attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle, domestic assault, brandishing, and reckless handling of a firearm.

Related to the March 23 shooting incident, through an extensive investigation, BCSO detectives were able to successfully identify Arieanna D. McDorman’s possible whereabouts. McDorman, 32, of Clifton Forge, who was wanted out of Alleghany County, was taken into custody on March 26 after a traffic stop, requested by Botetourt County detectives, led authorities to her location. She is currently being held without bond. McDorman was involved in an alleged domestic dispute with Bray on the morning of the shooting incident.

The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office extends its gratitude to the community for their assistance and vigilance during this investigation.
