The Council of Community Services is sponsoring an area-wide, online Give Roanoke campaign to support local non-profit organizations on April 19.
Given the need to expand the Botetourt County Courthouse, the Botetourt County Historical Society (BCHS) relocated its Botetourt Museum of History and Culture to 26 E. Main Street, Fincastle, in early 2022 due to the former facility’s extremely close proximity to the courthouse, which is slated to be demolished and rebuilt.
BCHS asks to please consider helping with the increased operating expenses which the museum is incurring as a result of the relocation here: www.giveroanoke.org/organizations/botetourt-county-historical-society-inc.
BCHS would also be honored to have new visitors at the new, larger museum location with its reimagined exhibits on the rich history of Botetourt County, which initially included all of western Virginia south of Augusta County, the entirety of Kentucky, and portions of five additional states.
The museum is open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 2-4 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free. The museum is looking ahead to expand the mission and scope of services in Botetourt for the next 250 years through the generosity of the community.
BCHS was founded in 1966 with the mission of celebrating, preserving, promoting, and educating the community on the history and culture of Botetourt County. The society has pursued its mission through establishing and operation the museum, sponsoring and providing an outlet for historic publications and research, restoring artifacts, assisting in genealogical research, providing educational presentation, and conducting tours.
