The James River wrestlers will be competing in the Region 2A West tournament at Grundy High School this weekend. Wrestling starts at 4 p.m. Friday and continues through Saturday.

The Knights competed in the sub-region tournament at Grayson County High last Saturday. The tournament was for seeding in the regional and River had one first place, Travis Sisson at 220. Jordan Murray was second and thirds went to Ian Hester, Tyler Meadows, Jesse Carter and Levi Walker. Caleb Shipwash was sixth and Josh Ferguson was eighth.

“Everyone advances to Regions, but it’s the seeding that really mattered and it looked like most of our guys were going to be facing some pretty uphill battles in Grundy this weekend,” said coach Tim Jennings. “All of our third place finishers had bad matches in the semis, not wrestling like they should have or capable of. The really positive spin to that is they were able to bounce back and get third, which can be hard to do sometimes.

“We spent all week talking about the importance of this event and how it will set us up for the rest of the postseason,” Jennings continued. “Nothing is going to change. That is still our focal point this week going into Regions, only now it’s win or go home. This is what we have been working toward the whole season.”
