A Virginia State Police traffic stop Sunday, Feb. 26 on Interstate 81 in Botetourt County netted three arrests and illegal drugs, guns and cash.

At 3:05 p.m., a Virginia State Police trooper stopped a northbound 2007 Mazda for excessive speed. The trooper’s radar recorded the vehicle traveling at 75 mph in the posted 60 mph zone. During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded two illegal, concealed firearms, cocaine, prescription pills, hash oil, more than a pound of marijuana and more than $4,700 in cash. Further investigation revealed the three occupants had left Radford and were headed to Richmond.

  • The driver, Kyle H. Webb, 22, of Springfield was charged with speeding and possession of marijuana.
  • Trechon D. Hunter, 24, of Richmond was charged with possession of a concealed firearm.
  • Spencer W. Townsend, 25, of Richmond was charged with possession of a gun with a Schedule I-II drug, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

The driver and passengers were transported to the Botetourt County Jail, where Hunter and Townsend are being held without bond. Webb was released on bond.
