The James River golfers had a good day on the links Monday when they played a round at The Homestead in a non-district match.
Ryan Steger and Dylan Hicks tied for medalist honors in the match, both shooting four over par for 40 in the nine-hole match. Sam Bell wasn’t far behind with a 42 and Josh Krepps rounded out the top four with a 46.
“It was a great day and our golfers are really coming together,” said coach Donna Cox.
The Knights had a district match at Great Oaks last week, hosted by Floyd County. The match was moved back two days due to inclement weather and when the golfers finally got to play, host Floyd County shot 317 to win the round. Radford was second at 340, River came in third with 368, Glenvar shot 372, Alleghany was next at 386 and Carroll County carded a 396 to bring up the rear.
River’s low score was Hicks with an 84, followed by Steger at 87. Also scoring were Haden Parker with 96, while Bell and Evan Mines tied for fourth best at 101.
The Knights are off the rest of the week, returning to action next Monday, August 29, for a Three Rivers District match hosted by Glenvar. A day later, on August 30, River will host Bath County and Pocahontas in a non-district match at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club.
