The Buchanan Lions Club is inviting the community to take part in a modern twist on a classic tale with its upcoming Stone Soup Foodraiser, set for 4 p.m. March 7 at Buchanan Trinity Episcopal Church, 19640 Main Street, Buchanan.
Inspired by the European folktale “Stone Soup,” the event centers on the theme of neighbors coming together to share what they have. In the traditional story, hungry travelers convince reluctant villagers to contribute small amounts of food to a communal pot, transforming simple ingredients into a hearty feast and demonstrating the power of cooperation and generosity.
Organizers say the Buchanan event will follow that same spirit.
Admission to the Stone Soup Foodraiser is one non-perishable item for the local Blessings Box— such as soup, soap, pasta or shampoo— along with one can of human-edible food to be added directly to the soup kettles.
Guests will be treated to a meal featuring three different pots of soup (meat, poultry and vegetarian) along with salad, muffins and drinks. Members of the kitchen crew will open each donated can and add it to the appropriate pot. Once the soups are heated and ready, attendees may choose their preferred variety.
Any monetary donations collected during the event will benefit the Buchanan Blessings Box and Buchanan Food Pantry charities, supporting local residents in need.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and help turn simple ingredients into a shared meal for a good cause.
