The Lord Botetourt tennis teams are scheduled to play Hidden Valley opponents today. The boys will be at home, at Hollins University, and the girls will go to Hidden Valley.

Both teams picked up wins last week, as the girls beat Staunton River, 8-1, and the boys shut out both Staunton River and Alleghany, 9-0.

The girls match with Staunton River was the first against a Blue Ridge District opponent and the Cavaliers came up big. Singles winners were Rachel Williams, Leah Germain, Abby Eggleston, Kayleigh Shafer and Allison Coombe. LB swept the doubles.

“The girls played well overall, especially after coming back from spring break and many of them being out of town and unable to practice,” said coach Caroline Altier. “It was beautiful weather.”

For the boys, Noah Bryant played well down the stretch in a close match to win 8-6 against Allegheny. Liam McCaul and Tucker Grimshaw played really well at first doubles.

The wins gave the boys a 6-1 record while the girls are 3-5. Both teams were scheduled to play Northside on Tuesday, but results were too late for publication. On Friday both will play William Byrd, with the girls at Hollins and the boys at Byrd.
