Jenna Overstreet told the Botetourt School Board how much she’s enjoyed being a member of the Troutville Elementary School Book Club during the board’s regular meeting last week. Fourth and fifth graders are eligible to be in the Book Club that was established to encourage students to read just for pleasure. Several of the students who spoke told the board they enjoyed that aspect of the club— reading without having to take a test or write a report. Media Specialist Megan Young told the board the purpose of the club is “to ignite a love of reading and to build a community of readers.” School Counselor Lynette Saville also assists with the club. Among the other students who spoke to the School Board about the club were (seated, from left) Simon Williams, Jack Stelter, Taylor Bowling, Bryson Reimer and Elliott Stump.
