BOCO Camp LEO wraps up successful first week at Camp Eagle
BOCO Camp LEO wrapped up its first week of the fcifth annual summer camp, held at Camp Eagle. The camp was at full capacity, with participation from Botetourt County students in grades 4-8.
Throughout the week, campers experienced a wide range of activities designed to build confidence, promote teamwork, and strengthen connections between the youth and their school resource officers. From obstacle courses and team challenges to swimming, creek exploration, and field games, each day was packed with learning, fun, and personal growth.
Sheriff Matt Ward shared, “The first week of BOCO Camp LEO has been incredible. Watching these kids engage with our deputies, learn about the world of law enforcement, and build lasting friendships has been truly rewarding. Camp gives our School Resource Officers a chance during summer break to connect with kids in a positive, meaningful way.”
As we close out the first session of Camp LEO, we’re already preparing for Week Two. Week Two kicks off on Monday, June 16, with an entirely new group of campers ready to take on the adventure. We look forward to another amazing week of fun.
The Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere thanks to all the campers and their families for making this week such a success. Their energy, enthusiasm, and participation made for an unforgettable week. The support from our community business partners continues to make this camp possible, and we look forward to welcoming even more students at future camps.

Sheriff’s Office hosts Community Outreach Golf Tournament
The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Program hosted its sixth annual Community Outreach Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 7, welcoming 30 teams for a day of golf.
As one of the more popular Community Outreach events of the year and with perfect weather, a full course, the tournament brought together local businesses, first responders, and residents in support of the Sheriff’s Office’s outreach initiatives. The strong turnout and participation helped make the event one of the most successful tournaments to date.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who came out to support our Community Outreach Program,” said Sheriff Matt Ward. “Whether you played, sponsored a hole, donated prizes, or simply helped spread the word, we are thankful for your continued support.”
The tournament directly support programs such as BOCO Camp LEO, Senior Socials, the Sheriff Student Scholarship Program, BOCO Night Out, and other community events that focus on youth engagement, safety education, and strengthening positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.
The four-person teams participated in contests, raffle prizes, and a catered lunch for all players. More importantly, it created an opportunity for the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens it serves to come together in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
The Sheriff’s Office extends heartfelt thanks to all 30 teams, as well as the sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who helped make the sixth annual golf tournament an incredible success. Planning is already underway for next year’s event, and we look forward to seeing you there!
