Helen Elizabeth Thompson, 87 of Roanoke died Monday, November 11, 2019.
She was born March 29, 1932, daughter of the late Samuel Lawrence Thompson Sr. and Bessie Margaret Wood Thompson. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Samuel L. Thompson Jr. and Hazel Adkins Bayne; and brothers-in-law, Maynard Greenway and Raymond Adkins.
Helen is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Greenway and Elsie Guilliams (Gene); sister-in-law, Molly Thompson; nine nieces and nephews, Fern Holliday, Sue Cheek, Donna David, Dawn Biscotti (Mike), Paula Hudson (Greg), Nita Eldred, Gary Guilliams (Karen), David Thompson and Bruce Thompson (Judy). She also had 12 great-nieces and -nephews and 10 great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Helen graduated from Fincastle High School in 1949 and was a member of the Beta Club. Her working career included Roanoke’s old Burrell Hospital, Kenrose Mfg. Co., Halmode Apparel, and Fred Whitaker among others. She was a phenomenal seamstress, a caregiver to the young and old, and gardener extraordinaire.
Helen’s funeral service was held Monday, November 18, 2019, followed by burial in Daleville Cemetery.
