Two Lord Botetourt girls and one from James River qualified for the state girls wrestling tournament that will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday in Henrico. The all-girls Zone 4 Qualifier was held Sunday and Monday at Franklin County High School.
Lord Botetourt finished third out of 70 schools represented in the tournament and had a champion in Serenity Shearer at 145 pounds. Serenity is now a two-time champion.
Jasmin Andrade placed third in the tournament for the second year in a row and qualified for the state. Gracie Fightmaster placed fifth and will be an alternate while freshman Lylah Pearce dropped her two matches but wrestled well. Sophomore Holly Wood went 2-2 at the tournament and was one match away from placing.
“Overall, our girls wrestled well and we fully expect the program to continue to grow and get better,” said LB coach Paul Craft.
James River’s Georgia Miller also wrestled in the tournament and placed third at 145, qualifying for next week’s state tournament that includes girls from all VHSL classifications. Her only loss was to LB’s Shearer, who is also a good friend.
