The James River boys were third and the girls were fifth in the Region 2C indoor track meet at Roanoke College last Friday night. Three Rivers District teams swept the meet as the Floyd County girls and Glenvar boys took the team championships.
The River boys had a region champion in Michael Jorgensen, who won the 3200-meter run. Canaan Clark was second in the shot put and Grayson Dudley also scored with a fourth place finish.
Conner Church was fourth in the 300 and sixth in the 55 meters and he’ll go to state in both, as will freshman Gavin Binns with a fourth place finish in the 55.
For the girls, the 4×200 relay team of Kelsey Firebaugh, Navaeh Van Buren, Kaia Binns and Kyleigh Mills finished second. Firebaugh was also third in the 55 meters and fourth in the 300, Binns was seventh in both the 55 and 300, and Mills was seventh in the 500 meters.
In the field events VanBuren took fourth in both the long and triple jumps. Emma Francis was second in the shot put and Emma Bobbit was fourth.
The Class 2 state meet will be held at Liberty University on March 1 and 2.
