The Lord Botetourt and James River track teams will be competing in the 53rd annual Cosmopolitan Club Track Meet this weekend at William Fleming High School.

The weekend starts with middle school competition on Thursday, with Read Mountain and Central Academy representing Botetourt County. The high school teams take center stage Friday, and all finals are Saturday at Fleming, with a “Parade of Athletes” scheduled to 11 a.m. The Cosmopolitan Club will also award two scholarships of $3,500 on Saturday, one for a male and one for a female.

Both county teams participated in the Golden Eagle Invitational at Staunton River High School last Saturday, although both LB and River had small teams due to having prom that night. Bryson Cook finished second for LB in the 800 with a time of 2:06.59 and Cassie Feltis was third in the 100 hurdles at 19:04.

The boys 4×800 relay team of Cameron Turney, Austin Gibson, Luke Heffelfinger, and Alex Hawkins was fourth and fifth places went to Lauren Duff in the 400 and Max Burke in the long jump.

For River, Ian Hester took second in the 300 hurdles, Levi Walker was second in the shot put and the 4×800 boys relay team was also runner-up. Tara Krantz was fourth in the girls shot, Logan Williamson was fourth in the boys shot  and Susan Schulz was sixth in the high jump.

Botetourt also had some athletes in the Blacksburg Invitational. Connor Hayes was third in the 3200 and fourth in the 800 while Maxwell Klimczak was ninth in the 1600. For the girls, Sofia Hernandez took fifth in the 1600.
