The Fincastle Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met in Buchanan at the Community House, also known as the Wilson Warehouse, on May 15.
Guest speaker Harry Gleason described the history of the building and how it played a big part in the Civil War with storage and delivery for surrounding towns. These supplies were delivered up the James River from Richmond.
The Community House also was a dwelling, warehouse and store building located on the lower street of Buchanan. Wilson sold the property to Oscar Huffman, who later presented the building to the Improvement Society in April 1938. Since then, the Community House has been a historical landmark and social center.
A chapter meeting followed, with a member receiving two supplemental certificates. Two new member certificates also were presented.
