The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a public information meeting on Thursday, Feb. 9 to present previously shared information with citizens in the Alleghany-Highlands region about future safety improvements on US 220 in Botetourt County.

The meeting will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the National Guard Armory Gymnasium at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, 1000 Dabney Drive in Clifton Forge. The meeting will be held in an “open-house” format with a brief presentation taking place at 5 p.m. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the project and answer questions.

The future improvements on US 220 in Botetourt County will be made on 9.65 miles of roadway starting at 0.129 miles south of Route 43 (Narrow Passage Road) extending to the intersection with Route 727 (Fork Farm Road).

The safety measures will include improving the alignment, widening shoulders, improving intersections, adding turn lanes, creating additional passing zones, providing raised centerline pavement marking and providing centerline and edge-line rumble strips.

Anyone with questions about the meeting or requiring special assistance to attend and participate may contact Craig Moore at 387-5353, 800-367-7623 or TTY/TDD 711.
