Thelma E. (“Cindy”) Vines, 92, of Buchanan, passed away on August 1, 2025.
Cindy was born on November 30, 1932, and raised in Franklin County, Va. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 66 years, Russell D. (“Buddy”) Vines; parents, Lynford Duglass Brooks and Ella Brooks Shropshire; sister, Gladys Toler; brothers, Monroe, C.W., and Jimmy Brooks.
Thelma worked for Wayne Graves at Buchanan Hardware and F.W. Graves Oil Company for many years. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Buchanan, where she served as treasurer.
She is survived by her brother, Ray Brooks; daughter, Sherry Sink; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Vickie Vines; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Eva Vines; grandsons, Wade T. Anderson and wife, Stephanie; Ryan C. Anderson and wife, Rachel; granddaughters, Amber Vines Wilke, Heather Vines Wallace and husband, Jay; Tina Ratcliffe and husband, Jeff; and Christy Kaelin. She is also survived by adoring great-grandchildren, Madeleine and Carter Anderson, Ian and Owen Anderson, Ava and Russell Wilke, Nicholas, Hunter, and Mikaela Wallace, Phillip Moore, and McKenzie Engleman; Jenna Farris, as well as numerous dear nieces and nephews.
There will be a time of visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Botetourt Funeral Home. There will be a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Buchanan. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in her honor to the Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 206, Buchanan, Va. 24066 or Good Samaritan Hospice.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the care provided to Cindy by Good Samaritan Hospice, and especially Lyn Mowles and Kathy Moses.
