All kinds of volunteers are needed to help “Brighten the Day of a Sick Child!”
Ryan Cases For Smiles is a non-profit organization solely dedicated to helping sick children cope with the stress of their illnesses and injuries.
The Roanoke area chapter makes approximately 200 pillowcases each month for Carilion Hospital, and on Saturday, March 25, the chapter is hosting an all-day event to create whimsical children’s pillowcases at the Church of Transfiguration in Fincastle.
“We make approximately 200 pillowcases each month for Carilion Hospital. The cost of each pillowcase ranges from $8 to $10, and the monthly cost for fabric is about $1,200 per month and $14,000 per year,” member Betsy Capito explained.
The Ryan Cases For Smiles chapter is asking volunteers to bring 1.5 yards of prewashed, 100 percent cotton fabric with a whimsical colorful theme or a cash donation for the event.
“If you can sew, bring your sewing machine,” Capito said. “But don’t worry if you can’t sew. We need many other helpers to fold, iron, bag and cut. If you come, we will have a job for you.”
The event is from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.. The church is located at 7624 Roanoke Road (US 220) just south of Fincastle.
