Virginia Western Community College’s Workforce Solutions is offering Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) training. This credentialing program will prepare students for a career in the fast-growing field of Healthcare Information Management (HIM) in just 15 weeks.

The class meets from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Feb. 28-June 7 in the Thomas Center, on the Virginia Western Campus, Roanoke.

Students will learn the skills needed to become certified by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Students will gain the knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA guidelines and basic billing and coding fundamentals to effectively function in the healthcare environment.

Full tuition is $2,166, including textbooks and the CMAA exam. Students may qualify for the Workforce Credentials Grant and be eligible to enroll for one-third that cost ($722). Additional funding support may be available.

For more information, contact Amanda Decker at 540-857-6279.

Medical assisting is one of the fastest growing careers nationally. Individuals with a CMAA certification can obtain employment as a medical office assistant, medical receptionist, office manager, medical office receptionist, medical records/health information technician and more.
