Buchanan American Legion Post 93 inducted Sarah Ware as Post Commander on May 24.
The gavel was passed by outgoing Commander Charles Montgomery during the Post Induction Ceremony.
Ware will serve as the first female Commander in the Post’s 86-year history. She also serves in Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5895 and has held Senior Vice-Commander, Quartermaster and Adjutant offices in the VFW District 6 of Virginia.
Ware served in the U.S. Air Force for nearly 33 years and deployed in support of combat Operation’s Desert Shield/Storm, Southern Watch, Deliberate Guard, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
Ware retired from the Air Force in 2012 as a Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted grade, and was the Superintendent, Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency Individual Mobilization Augmentee Program Management.
The Post’s 2017-2018 officers are Finance Officer Charlie Alphin, Chaplain and Membership Chair Roy Hensley, Service Officer Jimmy Eubank and Adjutant Frank Ware.
The Legion Post meets the fourth Tuesday of each month in the Buchanan Town Hall. The Post extends an invitation to all veterans to join and help make a difference in the community.
