All high school sports were shut down last week due to the winter snowstorm the weekend of Jan. 21 and the ensuing freezing temperatures to follow. James River and Lord Botetourt were scheduled to play basketball games Tuesday but results were too late for publication. Most of the events from last week have been rescheduled and the following are still on as of press time, beginning with Wednesday, Feb. 4.

For Lord Botetourt, the wrestling team is scheduled to host Salem today, Wednesday, at 6 p.m. for a dual match in the auxiliary gym. A girls’ basketball game with Liberty has been cancelled. On Thursday the LB swim team will compete in the Blue Ridge District meet in Franklin County.

On Friday both basketball teams are scheduled to play William Fleming. The girls are home for a jayvee-varsity doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m., and likewise for the boys in Roanoke with the jayvees beginning at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday the boys’ varsity basketball team is at Salem High to meet Cave Spring in the Adam Ward Classic at 10 a.m. The LB “Red” wrestling team will compete in the Region 3D tournament at Staunton River, beginning at 10 a.m. The girls “Pink” team will wrestle in the Zone 4 Qualifier at Franklin County High beginning at 8:30 a.m., and that will continue Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

As of press time LB has nothing scheduled for Monday but basketball is on the agenda for Tuesday, Feb. 10. The boys have a jayvee-varsity doubleheader at Northside, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the girls will host Northside at LB and it’s “varsity only” beginning at 6 p.m.

At James River nothing is scheduled for today, Wednesday, but the girls’ basketball team is scheduled to host Patrick County in a Three Rivers District game Thursday. The jayvees will play at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow.

On Friday the girls are in action again with a home doubleheader against Radford, and the boys are at Radford for a 6 p.m. varsity only game.

On Saturday the River swimmers will be in action at the Hargrave Military Academy pool.

Next Monday, Feb. 9, the River girls’ varsity basketball team will host Northside in a 7 p.m. scheduled non-district game. On Tuesday the girls will be at Floyd County for a Three Rivers District doubleheader, with the jayvees opening at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity to follow. The River boys are home to host Floyd in a varsity-only event scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday. The boys are at Patrick County the following night, Feb. 11, for a varsity-only game with the Cougars.

Obviously, events and times are subject to change due to the weather but that’s how it looks as of press deadlines.
