The YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge now has $9 million pledged toward building the Botetourt Family YMCA in Daleville.
The Botetourt Family YMCA met the goal of raising $8,850,000 by August 1 to receive the challenge match gift from Bill and Shireen Kirk of $150,000.
Meeting this milestone of $9 million allows the Y to move forward with breaking ground this fall with the goal of having the Botetourt Family YMCA available to the community in December of 2018.
John Williamson, a member of the Botetourt Family YMCA Steering Committee responded, “Delighted!” when asked about reaching this financial benchmark. “Only $1 million to go,” he added to reach the expected $10 million it will cost to build the new YMCA.
“We’re most appreciative of the hard work of the campaign volunteers and generous Botetourt donors. And of course, we’re appreciative of the generosity and challenge of Bill and Shireen Kirk,” Williamson added.
“Meeting this goal was enormous for Botetourt and the Y,” said Mark Johnson, President and CEO of YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received and look forward to the same enthusiasm as we raise the final million to complete the project,” said Johnson.
The Botetourt Family Y hopes to raise the final million prior to ground breaking this fall. The community will have many opportunities over the coming months to pledge their support or by making naming and memorial gifts.
