Botetourt County 4-H Shooting Education Club member Jacob VanNess has qualified as a member of the Virginia 4-H State Shotgun Team. Jacob started in seventh and climbed his way up to third, which made him eligible for the team.

The National 4-H Shooting Education Championship event is held annually in Grand Island, Neb., and is scheduled this year for June.

The team is awaiting confirmation that this event will take place as planned. If that approval is given, the team will be seeking donations and/or sponsorships to help send them to Nebraska. Anyone interested in donating to the team or serving as a sponsor may contact Tyler Painter at 473-8260 for information.

4-H Camp registration now open

Registration for the 2021 Botetourt County 4-H Camp officially opened on Monday, April 5. Spaces are limited this year and there are specific COVID-19 protocols in place. If you have any questions or would like additional information, call Tyler Painter at 540-473-8260.

Future Ready Academy launching this summer

Botetourt County 4-H and several community partners are seeking participants for a program they are launching this summer called Future Ready Academy – Botetourt. This program will take place July 20-22 and is for rising juniors and seniors that are interested in learning more about career opportunities within Botetourt County and exploring a variety of potential future career paths. Program participants will take part in various professional workshops, participate in site visits to local businesses, and have the opportunity to speak with professionals in the career field(s) that they are interested in.

Interested candidates need to complete the program application online or via paper copy, either of which can be shared by Tyler Painter, 4-H Agent. For more information, the deadline for applications, etc., contact the 4-H office at 473-8260 or by e-mailing Painter (tpaint85@vt.edu).
