After being shut out by Radford last week the James River boys rallied for a 2-1 Three Rivers District win over Alleghany in Springwood Monday night.

“We got the win but didn’t finish in the final third too well,” said coach Jared Whiting. “We had a lot of shots, just most were high or wide. We gave them a goal late in the game that we shouldn’t have but dominated the field most of the game.”

The win followed a 6-0 loss to at Radford last Thursday.

“Radford has a solid team that we need to be at the top of our game for and we just didn’t have it in us at game time,” said Whiting. “We played behind the ball all night and you’re not going to win that way.”

The Knights had beaten Auburn, 2-0, a night prior and that was somewhat of a factor in the Radford game.

“Heavy legs from a game the night before, playing without a full roster, and playing flat was a disaster for us against Radford,” said Whiting.

The Knights are now 8-2 on the season and 2-2 in the Three Rivers District. They have a non-district game at Eastern Montgomery Friday night.
