The James River soccer teams are tuning up for the Region 2C tournament with back-to-back games this week. River teams will play tonight against Rockbridge and Thursday against Glenvar.

The girls haven’t played since dropping a 3-1 decision at Radford on May 8. The girls are at Rockbridge tonight and at Glenvar on Thursday. They come into the week at 7-8 overall.

The River boys will play the second game of a doubleheader at Rockbridge tonight, then host Glenvar on Thursday. The boys are 11-4 after winning at Eastern Montgomery last Thursday, 2-0. Josiah Clark had both goals and Corban Wilhelm had the shutout in goal.

“Overall we played a good game,” said coach Jared Whiting. “We played most of the game in their half which is always nice to see. We transitioned from defense to midfield to offense areas very well. The guys kept high intensity for the entire 80 minutes and wore East Mont down.

“Regions are on the schedule to start on May 26, but we don’t have anything official yet.  We will travel to either Radford or Nelson for the first round.”
