Students at Botetourt Technical Education Center (BTEC) recently teamed up with the volunteers at Kindred Souls K-9 Sanctuary to provide a doggy spa day for some canine senior citizens.

Kindred Souls is “dedicated to providing a peaceful sanctuary and permanent home for these dogs as they move through the aging process.”

The BTEC students are studying Veterinary Technology. The students are gaining valuable hands on experience while providing a needed service for some elderly patients. The program teaches the skills necessary to work as a veterinary assistant, or to further their education at a two- or four-year institution.

The Veterinary Technology class offers grooming services on Fridays. The cost is $10 and an appointment is required. Call BTEC at 473-8216 or email Andy Bell at abell@bcps.k12.va.us to make an appointment.

Melinda Simpson is the director of Kindred Souls K-9 Sanctuary in Troutville. Her contact information is ksk9sanctuary@gmail.com.
