Bizarre fatal shooting still under investigation

The Virginia State Police continues to investigate a bizarre deadly family shooting that occurred in Botetourt County in late November.

“It’s still under investigation,” said First Sgt. Jennings with the Virginia State Police Monday morning. “We can’t say anymore.”

Earlier troopers said the incident started late on Nov. 20 in Roanoke City, continued into Botetourt County where the fatal shot occurred and ended with a 26-year-old Reshawn Martin dead the next morning at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

It was unclear Monday morning if anyone has been charged in the deadly shooting.

Authorities said a domestic dispute involving a married couple and other family members started just before midnight on Nov. 20 in Roanoke City.

The husband and wife and family members left the screen, drove through Roanoke County entering Botetourt County at the intersection of Read Mountain Road and Sanderson Drive when the vehicles stopped.

There, according to state troopers, a family fight broke out leading to a male family member starting shooting. That led the husband and wife to leave in different vehicles. Authorities said there were no injuries from the gunshots.

A short time later, State Police were notified of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Read Mountain Road and Pheasant Run. Authorities said one of the vehicles left the scene of the accident, eventually crashing into an embankment near an apartment complex by Birchwood Lane.

Troopers found the husband and wife, who were transported to Carilion for treatment. The husband died the next morning from his injuries. This wife, whose name hasn’t been released, suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
