Fall is in the air, which means some great fall programming for the Botetourt community from Botetourt County Libraries and Parks & Recreation Departments. Here are some highlights of what is planned:
- October 1-31: October Reading Challenge “Fall in Love with Reading”
- October 19 (Eagle Rock Branch, 6 p.m.): “Life of Sorrow” – Gary Reid will present a performance of the one-man show called “A Life of Sorrow, the Life and Times of Carter Stanley.” The program uses a mix of storytelling and music to bring to life the saga of an Appalachian Mountain Music Treasure.
- October 21, 10 a.m. (Fincastle Branch) & 1 p.m. (Buchanan Branch): Stella Luna: The Musical – Stellaluna the bat, Verdi the snake, and Pinduli the hyena all seek refreshment at a watering hole one hot day, only to find themselves the subjects of a bullying lion’s ridicule. This show will be presented by Mill Mountain Theatre.
- October 27 – Trunk or Treat! – BOCO Parks & Rec will partner with the Buchanan Elementary PTA to host this free spooktacular event. Wear costumes and visit the trick-or-treat booths around the track. There will be a showing of the film “Monsters, Inc.” beginning around 7:30 p.m.
- October 27 (Eagle Rock Branch, 2:30 p.m.) Wings of Fire – This program will introduce and expand the world of Pyria, in Wings of Fire, to fans of the series and entice those who have never read it to give it a try. Registration is required.

- October 28 (Troutville Town Park): “Spooky Storytelling” – This is the big event of the season complete with food trucks, bounce house, Halloween games, face painting, crafts and spooky stories for all age groups. The event kicks off at 6 p.m.
