Earlier this year, the Botetourt Resource Center, Inc. (BRC) was awarded a $40,000 grant from the Fishwick Fund of the Community Foundation Serving Western Virginia. The BRC’s project, which was entitled “Nurturing Relationships while Supporting Financial Insecurity Among Older Adults,” focuses on programs that support the needs of the elderly living in Botetourt County and includes assistance with fuel and utility costs, dental costs, small home repairs, other basic human needs as well as recreation and socialization opportunities.

In addition to its programs for seniors, the BRC continues to operate the Interfaith Crisis Fuel Fund, which partners with area churches, to facilitate and assist individuals and families in the county with electricity cut-off notices and re-connections.

The BRC is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission for the past 23 years has been to provide the residents of Botetourt County with information, advocacy, and referral to needed human resources and programs to assist them in healthy and independent living. All of the BRC’s services and programs are available at no cost to all residents of Botetourt County.

For more information about any of the services and programs provided by BRC, call or visit the office at 33 Bedford Street in downtown Buchanan. Office hours are Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visit the website at www.botetourtresourcecenter.com or contact the office directly at 540-254-1468, or email Melissa Lucas at mlucasbrc@yahoo.com. Due to the current high number of calls to the center, please leave a message on the answering machine and calls will be returned within 24-48 hours.
