Buchanan Town Council met for its regular meeting for May this past Monday night in the Buchanan Town Hall.

Bank of Botetourt CEO Lynn Hayth and President Michelle Austin presented a bank franchise check for $66,314 to the Town of Buchanan. Hayth noted some of the bank’s recent milestones and thanked the community for everything the town does for the bank. Austin presented the check to Mayor Tristan Harris.

Council authorized a resolution to authorize full-time employees of the town to participate in a group life insurance program. Councilman Jamie Manspile said before council made the authorization that “it’s been a long time coming.” This decision affects the town’s employees who are regularly employed full time on a salaried basis and whose tenure is not restricted as temporary or as a “provisional appointment.”

Carol Boblett updated the council on the banner placement in town and will continue with the project.

Harris updated council on the upcoming events planned in Buchanan, most notably the upcoming Botetourt County Farmers Market Flower Festival on June 3 and BOCO Wild (the former fishing carnival) on June 10. Both events take place at Buchanan Town Park.

The next meeting of Buchanan Town Council is scheduled for June 12 at 7 p.m. at Buchanan Town Hall.
