Two recent Lord Botetourt graduates who shined on the high school softball mound in Daleville are having good seasons pitching in the collegiate ranks. Meredith Wells (top) is a junior at Elon University, where she’s posted a 3.98 earned run average for the Phoenix. Meredith has started nine games and picked up three wins, striking out 22. She has two complete games. Rhyann Jones is a freshman pitcher for the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, where she leads the team with a 7-1 record and a 2.81 earned run average. Rhyann also has fanned 22 for the 23-12 Spartans. UNC-Greensboro hosted North Carolina Tuesday and is at Furman this weekend while Elon (14-18) had a home game with Liberty University on Tuesday and will have a home-and-home with Duke this weekend, playing at Duke Friday evening and hosting the Blue Devils Saturday at 1 p.m.
